How to Switch Propane Suppliers

How to Switch Propane Suppliers

Switching propane suppliers for your house involves a few steps to ensure a smooth transition. Fall is a great time to transition to a new reliable supplier like Baker's Propane! Here's a general guide on how to do it:

  1. Research and Find a New Supplier

Start by researching and identifying potential propane suppliers in your area. Look for companies that offer competitive pricing, reliable service, and good customer reviews.

  2. Contact the New Supplier

Reach out to the new propane supplier you've chosen. You can typically find their contact information on their website or through a directory. Contact them by phone or email to inquire about their services and pricing.

  3. Request a Quote

Request a quote from the new propane supplier. They will need information about your propane usage, such as the average amount of propane you use annually or the size of your propane tank. Be prepared to provide this information to get an accurate quote.

  4. Compare Prices and Terms

Once you receive quotes from different propane suppliers, compare their prices, delivery options, and terms of service. Consider factors like delivery frequency, winter programs, and any additional fees.

  5. Check your tank percentage & confirm if you own or lease

If you are not sure if you own your tank contact your current propane supplier. If you do own your tank you are good to order with the new supplier. If you are a lease customer you will have two tanks for a period of time.

  6. Order a Tank / Gas from a New Supplier

Your new supplier will schedule a time to come out and install the tank. It will sit right next to your existing tank.  Someone is required to be home since a full system leak test is done. This is for everyone's safety!

*TIP- The reason summer or fall is a good time to switch is that you can fill the new tank at a lower price!

  7. Keep an eye on your tank percentage

Once your tank is getting low give the new supplier a call to switch over the propane tank to their tank. *We recommend calling around 20%! The new supplier will come out and switch over to the new tank.

  8. Schedule Pickup for the Previous Supplier

Call or email your old supplier to pick up their tank and cancel your account.

Keep in mind that the specific process for switching propane suppliers may vary depending on your location and the policies of the propane companies involved. Always read and understand the terms of the new agreement, and don't forget to check for any early termination fees if you are in a contract.
